The Labyrinth Walk

A short take on living and dying

Performed and filmed at Warrior Studios, London.

Marine Memory 1

A performance about life evolving from marine gastropods. Or, rebirth from a tuba, the coiled tubular design of which is based on the spiraled helix shape of shells that housed these early life forms.
As a brass player (cornet, trumpet, trombone, tuba) I have always had a connection and interest with breathing and blowing through tubes – controlling the breath to create sounds and music.
Marine Memory traces back to this ancestral oceanic beginning and refers to the use of the
original home design in making sound.

Marine Memory 2

The conch was the first trumpet because the shell has spiral forms that expand gently and make the perfect windway for blowing and producing a clear tone that has been called ‘the sacred breath of life’.
The conch has been used as a medium for signaling, conveying power, accompanying rituals, spiritual practice
and music making.
Its call is used at the beginning and end of Memoriam Covid 19 – see Films.

‘formed in the spirit of ‘bad music’. The band was made up of artists, film makers, virtuoso musicians, beginners, no hopers, hearing & non hearing and attempted to play

The Feral Four

The Stag’s Head pub, Dalston, London
With Aaron Williamson, Yuko Morita, Simon Raven.
The world’s biggest pop band phenomenon, the Beatles were largely inaudible as a live act from around mid-1963, due to wall of screaming created by thousands of hysterical Beatlemania fans. The Feral Four were formed to reflect this phenomenon by screaming back at the audience while dressed as a Beatles tribute band.
The performance was meant to have been recorded directly to acetate for instant playback by resident DJ ‘Nervous Stephen’. Unfortunately the record cutter broke earlier in the night so he played ‘Help’ instead.
